Herron had been hospitalized since July 1, when he was involved in a collision with another jet ski on Kentucky Lake. Herron was a longtime state lawmaker and served as chairperson of the state Democratic Party. He was also a minister and a lawyer. He was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives from 1990 to 2012, and was a state senator from 2012 to 2018.
