Key takeaways:

  • President Trump weighs 238 pounds with a blood pressure of 105 over 71 and a resting heart rate of 73 beats per minute.
  • Trump scored 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, indicating normal cognitive function.
  • The president has slight lower leg swelling attributed to chronic venous insufficiency and soft tissue irritation on his hands from frequent handshaking and aspirin use.

President Donald Trump is in “excellent health,” according to a letter released Friday by his White House physician following a physical exam earlier this week at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The letter, authored by Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, described the president’s cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function as strong, noting that Trump is “fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”

The president, who will turn 80 next month, underwent a series of tests during his visit on Tuesday, his third known checkup at Walter Reed since returning to the White House. Barbabella reported that Trump weighs 238 pounds, with a blood pressure reading of 105 over 71 and a resting heart rate of 73 beats per minute. These figures reflect changes from his last physical in April 2024, when he weighed 224 pounds and had a blood pressure of 128 over 74.

Trump is currently taking aspirin and cholesterol medications rosuvastatin and ezetimibe. The physician noted that the president’s cardiac age is approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age, a consistent assessment from previous exams. Trump also scored 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a standard test of cognitive health, a result he has frequently highlighted.

Barbabella’s letter addressed minor health issues, including “slight lower leg swelling,” which has improved since last year and is attributed to chronic venous insufficiency, a benign condition affecting blood flow in the legs. The physician also mentioned “soft tissue irritation” on Trump’s hands caused by frequent handshaking and aspirin use, which the White House has cited as the reason for visible discoloration and bruising on the president’s right hand.

Preventive care was emphasized in the report, with Barbabella stating that Trump is up to date on all recommended screenings and immunizations. The president received counseling on diet, was advised to continue weight loss and increase physical activity, and was recommended to maintain low-dose aspirin use.

Trump has had multiple medical visits over the past year, including two at Walter Reed in 2024 and two dental appointments in Florida earlier this year. Following his October 2024 visit, he underwent a CT scan of his heart and abdomen to rule out cardiovascular issues, which returned normal results.

After Tuesday’s exam, Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, “Just finished my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Everything checked out PERFECTLY. Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff!” Despite occasional public speculation about his health, including observations of drowsiness and hand bruising, the White House maintains that the president remains in robust health and capable of fulfilling his presidential duties.
