The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that FTC commissioners’ removal protections are unconstitutional, overturning the 1935 Humphrey’s Executor precedent. The decision gives presidents broader power over independent agencies while leaving separate litigation over the Federal Reserve on a different track.

British American Tobacco will cut 5,500 jobs and outsource 3,500 more as part of a transformation plan expected to save £600 million a year by 2028. The company said its U.S. business will not be affected.
