Actor Tyler Christopher, best known for his role in the long-running daytime soap opera “General Hospital,” has died at the age of 50. His colleagues from the show confirmed the news on Tuesday.

“General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini released a statement to People magazine, saying: “I am heartbroken over the news of Tyler’s passing. He was a beloved member of our GH family and will be deeply missed.”

Christopher’s “General Hospital” co-star Maurice Benard announced the news on Instagram Tuesday evening, writing, “Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment.” Benard noted that “Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol.”

Benard continued, “We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father. Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting.”
