Philadelphia police have identified a person of interest in the fatal shooting of award-winning journalist Josh Kruger, 39, on Sunday morning.

Kruger, who wrote for outlets including The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Citizen, was found lying on the sidewalk outside his home at around 1:30 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds, including to his chest and abdomen. Frank Vanore, deputy commissioner for the Philadelphia Police Department, told The Philadelphia Inquirer that there was no sign of forced entry into Kruger’s home and that it appeared the shooter had fired at Kruger seven times from the base of the stairs before fleeing.

Kruger was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:13 a.m., they said. Authorities said there was no sign of forced entry.

No arrest has been made, but a person of interest has been identified, police said. They did not name the person or provide further details amid the ongoing investigation.
