Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, who served as Donald Trump’s personal attorney, surrendered to Georgia authorities on Wednesday after being indicted last week for his role in an alleged conspiracy to undo Joe Biden’s win in the state.

Giuliani was charged with 13 counts, including violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, and conspiracy to commit false statements and writings. As he left his New York apartment building Wednesday morning, he told reporters, “I’m going to Georgia, and I’m feeling very, very good about it because I feel I’m defending the rights of all Americans, as I did so many times as a United States attorney.”

Giuliani’s attorneys agreed to a $150,000 bond with the Fulton County District Attorney’s office, the second-highest in the case after Trump himself. Giuliani also stated that he would plead not guilty if he were to enter a plea.

The charges against Giuliani stem from his involvement in an alleged effort to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia. Giuliani and others are accused of attempting to influence the outcome of the election by pressuring state officials to overturn the results.

The case is being handled by the office of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Willis has stated that her office is “committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that no one is above it.” The case is ongoing and it is unclear what the outcome will be.
