The House Ways and Means Committee, led by Republican Representative Jason Smith, has subpoenaed two senior IRS officials for testimony regarding an October 2022 meeting. According to an IRS whistleblower, U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who was investigating President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden at the time, stated he did not have the authority to bring charges against the president’s son.

In addition, two House GOP committee chairmen have sent subpoenas to four IRS and FBI officials on Monday, demanding they testify before Congress about the October 2022 meeting. The chairmen believe the officials were present at or had direct knowledge of the meeting.

The subpoenas come as the House Ways and Means Committee continues to investigate the October 2022 meeting and the Justice Department’s investigation into Hunter Biden. The committee has requested documents and communications related to the meeting, as well as any information related to the Justice Department’s investigation.

The two IRS officials subpoenaed by the committee are Michael Batdorf, an IRS director of field operations, and Darrell Waldon, an IRS Special Agent in Charge. The four IRS and FBI officials receiving subpoenas are yet to be identified.

The House Ways and Means Committee has not commented on the subpoenas or the investigation. It is unclear when the officials will be required to testify before Congress.
