The Department of Justice has offered U.S. Attorney David Weiss to testify publicly this fall regarding the case against President Joe Biden’s son Hunter. Assistant Attorney General Carlos Felipe Uriarte wrote in a letter obtained by NBC News that it is “strongly in the public interest” for the American people and Congress to hear directly from Weiss.

Weiss would be available to testify on September 27, 28, October 18, and 19. Uriarte noted that the most appropriate time for any testimony on these subjects is after the matter is closed.

The offer to testify publicly has been met with opposition from House Republicans, who have demanded Weiss come in soon for a closed-door interview. A spokesperson for Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The case against Hunter Biden is currently being investigated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware. Weiss was appointed to the position in February 2021.
