DENVER (AP) — Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Ryan Feltner was injured in the second inning of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies after being hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Phillies right fielder Nick Castellanos. Feltner was assisted by Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz and two trainers after the incident.
Colorado manager Bud Black said that Feltner has a skull fracture and concussion, but is overall “fine.” Black added that “the feeling is that it could have been worse.” The ball hit Feltner on the back right side of his head, and he fell to the ground. The pitch was a slider at 92.7 mph.
When asked whether the 26-year-old right-hander will be out for days, weeks or months, Black said “probably on the longer end of that.” Feltner was put on the 15-day injured list. The Rockies have not yet announced a replacement for Feltner in the starting rotation.
This is the second time this season that Feltner has been injured. In April, he was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right forearm strain. Feltner has a 3-4 record with a 5.48 ERA in 11 starts this season.
