Six people are dead and one suspect is in custody following a series of shootings in the small town of Arkabutla, Mississippi on Friday.

According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, six people were killed in the incident. Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance told CNN affiliate WMC that the shootings all happened within the Arkabutla community.

The first shooting occurred inside a store on Arkabutla Road, where a man was killed. Deputies then spotted the suspect inside a vehicle on Arkabutla Dam Road and he was taken into custody without incident.

Four more victims were found after the arrest. Two were found inside a home and two outside, also on Arkabutla Dam Road. A woman was killed inside the home and her husband was injured, though it is unclear if he was shot.

Arkabutla has a population of just 285 and is best known for being the birthplace of EGOT actor James Earl Jones.

The investigation is ongoing and authorities have not yet released the names of the victims or the suspect.
