Sarah Huckabee Sanders Selected to Deliver Republican Response to President Biden’s State of the Union Address

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has been chosen to deliver the Republican response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address next week. The announcement was made on Thursday by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Sanders, who served as White House press secretary in the Trump administration, said she was “grateful for this opportunity to address the nation and contrast the GOP’s optimistic vision for the future against the failures of President Biden and the Democrats.”

The selection of the opposite party’s response to a president’s State of the Union address is typically reserved for people the party views as up-and-coming leaders.
