Donald Trump had a successful first quarter in his campaign for the Republican nomination, raising more money than nearly all of the Republican presidential candidates in 2016. Nikki Haley's campaign manager Betsy Ankney sent a memo to donors noting that Trump was "consumed by the grievances of the past and the promise of more drama in the future" and that the "sensationalized partisan prosecution in Manhattan understandably made Republicans more sympathetic to the former president." Nikki Haley is now testing out some more critical messaging toward Trump and her opponents, a departure from her previous stance of not having a negative word to say about the former president.
