On Sunday, an 11-year-old girl tragically passed away on a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to New York. The captain of the flight diverted to Budapest, Hungary, after the girl lost consciousness and a doctor among the passengers attempted to revive her, but was unsuccessful. First responders in Budapest were also unable to revive the child and the cause of death is still unknown. Turkish Airlines expressed their condolences and are providing assistance to the family.
Turkey's Parliament has voted unanimously to ratify Finland's application to join NATO, ending months of delays and paving the way for Finland to become the 30th member of the Western military alliance. The decision follows Hungary's parliament endorsing Helsinki's accession earlier this week, and is in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine a year ago. Finnish President Sauli Niinisto said the vote marks a “historic moment” for Finland, and the country is now ready to join NATO.
