Witnesses reported that 24-year-old Miles Joseph Fridrich had an “evil look in his eyes” and was arrested after a brief chase on foot. Conroe Police Chief David Dickinson said they have not yet found evidence to support that the motive was linked to race or ethnicity, and Khan was remembered by her colleagues as a “kind and compassionate doctor” who was “loved by her patients and their families.”

Hundreds of police officers and FBI agents, as well as federal marshals and personnel from other agencies, are actively searching for Robert Card, the suspect in the mass shootings that killed 18 people and injured 13 in Lewiston, Maine. Commissioner Michael Sauschuck of the Maine Dept. of Public Safety refused to comment on whether law enforcement had been warned about the suspect prior to the shootings. The search continues as law enforcement works to bring the suspect to justice.
A 20-year-old Ohio man has pleaded guilty to attempting to burn down a church in a rural area outside of Cleveland due to his anger over the church's plans to host two drag events. Aimenn Penny was arrested in March after throwing two Molotov cocktails at the Community Church of Chesterland, and faces up to 20 years in prison. The Justice Department's Civil Rights Division has condemned the attack, emphasizing that churches should be safe havens for all people.
Federal prosecutors have charged off-duty Alaska Airlines pilot Joseph Emerson, 44, with one count of interfering with flight crew members and attendants, as well as 83 counts of attempted murder and reckless endangerment. Emerson admitted to not sleeping for 40 hours and using psychedelic mushrooms prior to the incident, and allegedly told responding officers he had "tried to kill everybody." Emerson is currently being held in the Multnomah County Jail and is scheduled to appear in federal court on Wednesday.
The Detroit Police Department released a statement on Sunday that there is no evidence to suggest that the fatal stabbing of Samantha Woll, the board president of Detroit's Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue, was motivated by antisemitism. Chief White said that the investigation is ongoing and that the DPD and FBI are working together to find out what happened. Funeral services for Woll were held Sunday afternoon and the DPD is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
Joran van der Sloot has confessed to the murder of Natalee Holloway as part of a plea deal with federal prosecutors, providing details about the location of Holloway's remains and other information. Despite his confession, van der Sloot will not be spending any time in prison, but the Holloway family has finally received closure.
