Suspect Taken Into Custody in Connection with Long Island Serial Killer Case

After more than a decade of searching, a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the unsolved murders of at least 10 women whose bodies were found on Long Island's Gilgo Beach. The suspect is from Massapequa, and there is a large police presence in Massapequa Park. Eleven sets of remains have been found in the area, but it is unclear if the suspect is connected to all of them.

Rare Solar Storm Brings Northern Lights to 17 States Across the United States

A rare solar storm is bringing the northern lights to 17 states in the United States, including Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Maryland. The best time to view the northern lights is at night, between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. local time, and away from the lights of a city. Cities such as Helena, Montana; Montpelier, Vermont; Minneapolis and Milwaukee are expected to have “highly active auroral displays” visible overhead.

Vermont State Police Urge Residents to Stay Home and Evacuate Homes as Floodwaters Approach

Vermont State Police are warning residents to stay home due to dangerous storms and flooding in the Hudson Valley of New York, which has already claimed the life of one woman. Emergency crews have been called to conduct rescues and more than 500 National Guard members have been deployed to assist. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for much of the Northeast U.S. and State Police are urging people to take the necessary precautions and to never drive or walk through floodwaters.

Flash Flood Warning Issued for New York City, Governor Declares State of Emergency in Orange County

New York City Emergency Management issued a warning to residents in basements to seek higher ground due to a rare flash flood warning issued for much of the city. This caused at least one death in Orange County, prompting New York Governor Kathy Hochul to declare a state of emergency. The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings across parts of southeastern New York and northeastern New Jersey, urging residents to take caution and follow the instructions of local authorities.

Washington, D.C. Bar Association Recommends Disbarment of Rudolph Giuliani for His Handling of 2020 Election Litigation

Bar Association has recommended that former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani be disbarred for his handling of litigation challenging the 2020 election on behalf of then-President Donald Trump. Allison Mack, best known for her role in "Smallville," was released from a federal prison in California after pleading guilty to various crimes related to her involvement in NXIVM, a purported self-help group that prosecutors said doubled as a secret sex cult. She served nearly two years in prison and avoided a longer sentence by cooperating with federal authorities. It is unclear if she will face any additional restrictions or probation.
