Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Hires Former Louisville Metro Police Officer Myles Cosgrove, Fired Following Breonna Taylor’s Death

Myles Cosgrove, a former Louisville Metro Police Officer who was fired in 2021 following the death of Breonna Taylor in 2020, has been hired by the Carroll County Sheriff's Office. Despite damning video footage and witness accounts, Cosgrove was never convicted and none of the three White officers who fired into Taylor's home were charged. His new job at the sheriff's department began on Thursday, with the hope that he will help reduce the flow of drugs and property crime in the area.

Louisville Metro Police Department Agrees to Settlement with Department of Justice Following Two-Year Investigation into Practices

Louisville, Kentucky and the Louisville Metro Police Department have agreed to a settlement with the Department of Justice following a two-year investigation into the department's practices. The investigation was launched after the killing of Breonna Taylor in 2020 and found that the LMPD unlawfully discriminates against Black people, uses excessive force, and violates the rights of people engaged in protected free speech. The settlement agreement commits the city and LMPD to work with the DOJ, the community, police officers and other stakeholders to implement a series of reforms.

Justice Department Finds Pattern of Unconstitutional Conduct by Louisville Metro Police Department

The U.S. Department of Justice has released a report finding that the Louisville Metro Police Department and the city of Louisville have violated citizens' constitutional and civil rights through the use of unreasonable tactics such as unjustified neck restraints, police dogs, and tasers. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the findings and said the LMPD has made strides to improve its practices since the investigation began. The Justice Department, the city of Louisville, and the LMPD have agreed in principle to a consent degree.

10 Injured in Targeted Drive-By Shooting in Lakeland, Florida

On Monday afternoon, a targeted drive-by shooting in Lakeland, Florida left at least 10 people injured, two of whom are in critical condition. Four shooters fired from a dark-blue Nissan four-door sedan, and the Lakeland Police Department is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects. Witnesses reported that graphic video footage of the raid was allegedly played in the restaurant, prompting outrage from the local NAACP chapter. Anna's Greek Restaurant released a statement expressing their regret and saying they would be taking steps to ensure similar events do not take place in the future.
