Businessman Toby Doeden has advanced to a July 28 runoff for the Republican nomination for South Dakota governor. Gov. Larry Rhoden, Rep. Dusty Johnson and House Speaker Jon Hansen were competing for the second runoff spot after no candidate reached 35% of the vote.
Iowa voters set competitive House matchups and chose Democrat Josh Turek for a U.S. Senate race against Republican Ashley Hinson. Primaries in California, New Jersey and other states also narrowed key congressional fields.
U.S. forces struck a military site on Iran’s Qeshm Island after shooting down Iranian drones and missiles, while Iran said its attacks responded to U.S. action against a tanker. The clashes come as ceasefire negotiations remain stalled and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted.

Rebecca Bennett won the Democratic primary in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District and will face Republican Rep. Tom Kean Jr. Kean has been absent from public view and Capitol votes since March 5 while citing a personal medical issue.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said the Trump administration will not move forward with a nearly $1.8 billion fund for people claiming government abuse. A separate agreement barring future IRS audits of Trump, his family and related entities over past tax records remains in place.
