A Saudi Aramco helicopter crashed Sunday morning in the eastern coastal city of Ras Tanura, killing all 14 people on board, Saudi state media reported.

The helicopter went down at about 6 a.m. local time, or 03:00 GMT, according to the Saudi Press Agency, which cited an official source at the energy ministry. All of the victims were Saudi citizens.

Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. The Saudi energy ministry sent condolences to the families of those killed.

Aramco, Saudi Arabia’s state oil giant, did not immediately comment, the BBC reported.

Ras Tanura is home to a major Aramco oil refinery, one of the largest in the Middle East, and includes a Gulf terminal used for crude oil loading. Reuters reported that Aramco resumed crude oil loading at the Ras Tanura site on Friday after a nearly four-month pause. The BBC reported the pause was due to the war in the Middle East, while Al Jazeera described it as being because of the US-Israeli war on Iran.

No further details about the helicopter, its route or the circumstances of the crash were immediately reported by state media.
