Vice President Kamala Harris has compared former President Donald Trump’s recent comments about immigrants to those of Adolf Hitler.

At a campaign event in Waterloo, Iowa, Trump told supporters that immigrants coming to the U.S. illegally were damaging the “blood” of the country. This echoed words used by Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in his manifesto “Mein Kampf.”

In an interview with MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell that aired Tuesday night, Harris said, “It is language that I think people have rightly found similar to the language of Hitler.”

The Vice President went on to say that the true measure of a leader is based not on who they beat down, but who they lift up. She added that it is important to remind each other, including our children, of this.

Trump’s comments have been widely condemned by both Democrats and Republicans. Many have called on the former President to retract his statement and apologize for his words.
