A Wisconsin woman has been found guilty of first-degree intentional homicide and two counts of theft in connection with the 2018 death of her family friend.

On Tuesday, a Waukesha County jury found 39-year-old Jessy Kurczewski guilty of poisoning her friend Lynn Hernan with eye drops and stealing nearly $300,000 from her.

According to a criminal complaint, Kurczewski called the police and said her friend wasn’t conscious or breathing. When police arrived, they found Hernan dead in her Pewaukee condo with crushed medication on her chest. The Waukesha County medical examiner ruled Hernan’s death a homicide after discovering she had been poisoned with Visine eye drops.

Kurczewski had been friends with Hernan for several years and had been living with her prior to her death. She was accused of stealing nearly $300,000 from Hernan’s bank accounts and using the money to buy a car, pay off her credit cards, and make other purchases.

The Waukesha County District Attorney’s office said in a press release that Kurczewski will be sentenced at a later date.
