Robert Yancy Jr., a 39-year-old man serving life without parole for sexual abuse of a child, escaped from prison in southeast Texas on Sunday afternoon. He was recaptured Monday morning in Palacios, 45 miles away, after two civilians recognized him and called police. Two people, including Yancy's mother, are suspected of helping him escape and an investigation is ongoing.

Jessy Kurczewski has been found guilty of first-degree intentional homicide and two counts of theft in connection with the 2018 death of her family friend, Lynn Hernan. Trent Thompson, a 22-year-old Texas inmate, escaped from the Formby State Jail in Plainview, Texas on Saturday night. He was apprehended in Coleman, Texas, 250 miles away, the next day. Thompson had been convicted of three counts of aggravated robbery and an aggravated assault on a public servant. No further details have been released about the escape or Thompson's capture.
