The Detroit Police Department announced Wednesday that a suspect has been taken into custody in the murder of Detroit synagogue president Samantha Woll. Woll, 40, was found stabbed to death outside her home in Lafayette Park on Saturday, Oct. 21.

Police Chief James White said that the suspect’s arrest does not represent the conclusion of their work in the case and that the details of the investigation will remain confidential to ensure the integrity of the important steps that remain.

Woll was the president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in Detroit and had recently been featured in a photo for the synagogue on Oct. 13, 2022. Investigators believe Woll was stabbed inside her home and then made her way out to her yard, where she was found.

The death of Woll had raised questions about whether it was motivated by antisemitism, but police have not yet commented on the motive behind the murder. The investigation is ongoing.
