Philadelphia police have identified Robert Edmond Davis, 19, as the suspect in the murder of journalist and activist Josh Kruger. On Friday, Lt. Hamilton Marshmond thanked the public and Kruger’s family and friends for providing information and assisting the police department in the investigation.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Davis, which includes charges of murder and related offenses. The Philadelphia Police Department said Davis is known to the department, but would not specify.

Kruger, 39, was shot and killed shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday in his home on the 2300 block of Watkins Street in Point Breeze. Lt. Marshmond said that without the help of the public, the police department would not have been able to identify Davis so quickly.

Kruger was a well-known journalist and community advocate in Philadelphia. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and had worked as a reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Tribune. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists.

Kruger’s death has been a shock to the Philadelphia community. On Thursday, friends and family gathered for a vigil to remember him. Police are still investigating the circumstances of Kruger’s death and are asking anyone with information to contact the police department.
