Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) has suggested that former President Donald Trump should withdraw from the 2024 Republican presidential race. During an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Cassidy said that Trump has been indicted in four separate cases, including a classified documents case that Cassidy believes is “almost a slam dunk” and likely to lead to a conviction.

“I think Joe Biden needs to be replaced,” Cassidy said. “But he will lose to Joe Biden if you look at the current polls. But I don’t think Americans will vote for someone who’s been convicted. Obviously that’s up to him.”

Cassidy also said that any of the GOP candidates expected to participate in the first debate, scheduled for Wednesday, would be better equipped to beat Joe Biden than Trump, due to Trump’s legal troubles. He added that he believes Trump will lose to Biden if the current polls are accurate.

Trump has yet to officially announce his candidacy for the 2024 presidential race, but has hinted at the possibility. His legal troubles, however, may be a major obstacle in his path to the White House. It remains to be seen whether Trump will heed Cassidy’s advice and drop out of the race.
