Key takeaways:

  • A lawsuit has been filed against Taco Bell for false advertising, claiming that menu items such as the Crunchwrap and Mexican Pizza contain less meat and/or ingredients than advertised.
  • The lawsuit claims that photos of Taco Bell’s menu items show “at least double” the amount of meat and vegetables actually contained in the items.
  • The plaintiff is seeking class action status, damages, and an injunction against Taco Bell to prevent it from continuing its alleged false advertising.

A lawsuit filed in the Eastern District of New York on Tuesday accuses Taco Bell of false advertising. The suit, brought by New York City resident Frank Siragusa, alleges that the fast food chain overstates the amount of beef and/or ingredients in its menu items, such as the Crunchwrap and Mexican Pizza.

The complaint claims that photos of Taco Bell’s menu items, both in store and in food delivery apps, show “at least double” the amount of meat and vegetables actually contained in the items. Siragusa claims that when he purchased a Mexican Pizza from a location in Ridgewood, New York, on September 20, 2022, it contained “approximately half of the beef and bean filling” he expected.

The lawsuit further states that Taco Bell’s alleged false advertising is especially concerning given the current high prices of food and meat, and the financial struggles of many consumers, particularly those with lower incomes.

Taco Bell has yet to respond to the lawsuit. The company has not commented on the allegations, and it is unclear what legal action, if any, it will take.

Siragusa is seeking class action status for the lawsuit, as well as damages and an injunction against Taco Bell to prevent it from continuing its alleged false advertising. The outcome of the lawsuit remains to be seen.
