Former President Donald Trump’s former attorney, Tim Parlatore, predicted Sunday that Trump may not face any charges in the Justice Department’s investigation into his handling of classified documents.

In an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Parlatore said he wouldn’t be surprised if Trump isn’t prosecuted in the Justice Department’s probe. Parlatore compared the case to the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s emails, noting that he was someone who was against prosecuting Clinton in the email controversy that shook up her 2016 presidential campaign.

Parlatore said the case poses complications for prosecutors, who would have to weigh whether to declassify certain documents to press charges against Trump. He added that there are a lot of additional problems or procedures that have to be gone through with that type of case.

The assessment from Parlatore contradicts other legal experts who have said Trump is very likely to face criminal charges when special counsel Jack Smith concludes his investigation. It is unclear when Smith’s investigation will be completed.

Parlatore resigned from Trump’s legal team last month. He is the latest in a string of attorneys who have left the former president’s legal team since the start of the investigation. Trump has denied any wrongdoing in the handling of classified documents.
