Early Saturday morning, tragedy struck the city of Chico, California, when a shooting at a large house party left one 17-year-old girl dead and five other people wounded.

Chico Police Chief Billy Aldridge said in a news conference Saturday that officers were first dispatched to a different party at around 12:27 a.m. on a report that “several rounds from a firearm were discharged.” Officers responding around 3:30 a.m. to reports of gunfire found six people shot at an apartment building in Chico.

Two men, ages 21 and 19, and a 17-year-old girl remain hospitalized in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Aldridge. Two other men, ages 18 and 20, were treated at the hospital and released.

Aldridge explained that a fight had occurred at the first party, and the suspect had been asked to leave prior to the arrival of officers. Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The tragedy has left the community of Chico in shock, and police are continuing to investigate the incident. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
