A Southern California man was found guilty of murder on Friday after intentionally ramming his car into another vehicle carrying six teenage boys. Anurag Chandra was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder in a Riverside County courtroom.

The victims, who were all 16 years old, were among six teens inside a Toyota Prius on Jan. 19, 2020 when Chandra intentionally rammed their vehicle off the road. Three of the boys were killed in the crash.

The incident occurred after the boys had played a doorbell-ringing prank on Chandra. The California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) investigated the scene of the crash in the Temescal Valley, south of Corona, California.

Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin said in a statement, “The murder of these young men was a horrendous and senseless tragedy for our community. This is an important step toward justice.”

Chandra is scheduled to be sentenced on April 30. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
