Republican Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina has taken the next step toward a potential 2024 presidential bid by launching an exploratory committee. In a video released Wednesday morning, Scott argued that Democrats have needlessly divided the country by fostering a “culture of grievance” and weaponizing race to hold onto their power.

Scott, the Senate’s only Black Republican, leaned into his biography as a Black man who overcame poverty to make his case. He said, “Joe Biden and the radical left have chosen a culture of grievance over greatness. They’re promoting victimhood instead of personal responsibility and they’re indoctrinating our children to believe we live in an evil country.”

The Senator also spoke out against the Democratic party’s treatment of him when he opposed their liberal agenda. He said, “All too often when they get called out for their failures, they weaponize race to divide us, to hold onto their power. When I fought back against their liberal agenda, they called me a prop.”

Scott concluded his video by announcing his exploratory committee for president of the United States. He said, “That’s why I’m announcing my exploratory committee for president of the United States.”

The exploratory committee is the first official step toward a formal campaign for the White House. Scott’s announcement is sure to be closely watched as the 2024 presidential election approaches.
