The Manhattan District Attorney’s office has accused three House GOP chairmen of attempting to interfere in its prosecution of former President Donald Trump. In a letter sent Friday, the office’s general counsel Leslie B. Dubeck criticized the chairmen for collaborating with Trump’s efforts to “vilify and denigrate the integrity of elected state prosecutors and trial judges.”

Dubeck wrote that the chairmen, Reps. James Comer, Jim Jordan and Bryan Steil, could use the stature of their office to denounce Trump’s attacks on District Attorney Alvin Bragg and urge respect for the fairness of the justice system. Instead, she said, they had chosen to collaborate with Trump’s efforts.

The letter also rebuffed the chairmen’s request for testimony and documents about the ongoing criminal investigation. Dubeck defended the grand jury’s vote to indict the former president and said the committees’ request for information would interfere in prosecutors’ criminal case.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s office has been investigating Trump since 2019 over allegations of financial misconduct. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has repeatedly criticized the investigation.

The letter from the District Attorney’s office is the latest development in the ongoing investigation into Trump. It is unclear what the outcome of the investigation will be, but it is clear that the District Attorney’s office is not willing to be swayed by political pressure from House Republicans.
