The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office on Thursday issued a strong rebuke to three House Republican chairmen who had requested testimony and documents related to the DA’s investigation into former President Donald Trump.

In a letter obtained by NBC News, Leslie Dubeck, general counsel for the Manhattan DA’s office, called the request “an unprecedent inquiry into a pending local prosecution” which “only came after Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested the next day and his lawyers reportedly urged you to intervene.”

The letter was in response to a Monday letter from Reps. Jim Jordan, James Comer and Bryan Steil to District Attorney Alvin Bragg, accusing him of preparing to “engage in an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority” and demanding his testimony if a New York grand jury issues an indictment charging Trump.

The grand jury convened by Bragg has been investigating the circumstances surrounding a $130,000 payment made on Trump’s behalf to adult film star Stormy Daniels just days before the 2016 election, including whether the payment violated campaign finance laws.

In her letter, Dubeck argued that the House Republicans’ request was a violation of the separation of powers and that it would interfere with the DA’s investigation. She also noted that the DA’s office had already provided the House with documents related to the case.

The Manhattan DA’s office concluded the letter by stating that they would not comply with the House Republicans’ request and that they would continue to pursue their investigation into the $130,000 payment.
