Vice President Harris Declares Russia Has Committed Crimes Against Humanity in Ukraine

At the Munich Security Conference, Vice President Kamala Harris declared that the United States has determined that Russia has committed crimes against humanity in Ukraine. Harris described the attack as “widespread and systemic”, citing “gruesome acts of murder, torture, rape, and deportation”. She emphasized the moral and strategic interest of the international community in pursuing these crimes, warning that other authoritarian governments could take advantage if international rules are undermined.

In response, Wang Yi, top foreign policy adviser to Chinese President Xi Jinping, said that “territorial and sovereignty integrity of all countries will be respected” in China’s proposal. He added that Beijing will continue to work for peace, and suggested that the international community should “begin to think calmly”.

Harris also highlighted the severity of the situation, noting “execution-style killings, beatings, and electrocution”. She concluded by emphasizing the importance of justice being served to the perpetrators, saying “this warfare can not continue to rage on”.

The Vice President’s comments come at a time of heightened tension between the United States and Russia. The international community is now faced with the challenge of finding a solution to the crisis in Ukraine, while ensuring that justice is served to those responsible for the crimes against humanity.
