Edgardo Greco, 63, was arrested Thursday in the city of Saint-Étienne in southeastern France, where he had been living and working as a pizza chef for the past three years.
Italian police said in a statement that Greco had been convicted of killing two people in the early 1990s in a fish shop in Calabria, Italy. The two victims were beaten to death with a metal bar.
An Interpol statement said French police, with help from Italian colleagues, arrested Greco in Saint-Etienne. Italian authorities said the two people killed in 2006 were connected to the ‘Ndrangheta crime group.
Greco had been on the run since 2004 and had been living in France since 2014. He is now awaiting extradition to Italy.
