Nikki Haley, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and a former governor of South Carolina, is expected to officially announce her bid for the 2024 presidential election on February 15th in Charleston. This comes after multiple reports suggested she could release a video outlining her plans as soon as this week, making her the second candidate for the GOP nomination in 2024 and the first to openly declare against former President Donald Trump.

Haley’s last hint at a 2024 run came earlier this month during a Fox News interview, in which she called for “generational change” when looking at the future of the country. South Carolina’s Post and Courier reported Tuesday night an invitation directed to Haley’s supporters is imminent, which will detail a “special event” on February 15th at a visitor center in Charleston.

Haley, who is 51-years-old, said in the Fox News interview, “I don’t think you need to be 80-years-old to go be a leader in D.C.” Trump is the lone candidate to announce a campaign so far and other high-profile names have been floated as potential candidates, including former Vice President Mike Pence and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Haley served as South Carolina’s governor from 2011 to 2017 and was appointed by Trump as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in 2017. She resigned from the post in 2018. If she officially announces her candidacy, she will join a growing list of Republicans vying for the party’s nomination in 2024.
