The Department of Justice (DOJ) searched the Wilmington, Delaware home of President Joe Biden on Friday, uncovering six items with classified markings. This comes weeks after the FBI searched former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, uncovering hundreds of classified and other materials.

President Biden’s personal attorney, Bob Bauer, said in a statement that the documents found at the Delaware home appear to be related to Biden’s time as vice president, as well as his tenure in the U.S. Senate. The DOJ took possession of the materials deemed within the scope of its inquiry, including the six items consisting of documents with classification markings and surrounding materials.

Last August, Biden responded to a question about whether it was ever appropriate for a president to take top-secret documents home by saying he had a “cabined-off space that is completely secure” in his home. He also said he was taking home with him that day’s President’s Daily Brief (PDB), a highly classified intelligence memo that contains some of the US government’s most closely held secrets.

The DOJ investigation into Biden’s possession of classified material is ongoing. It is unclear what the documents found at the Delaware home contain, or how they may be related to the investigation. It is also unclear whether the documents found at the Delaware home are related to the documents found at Mar-a-Lago.

The DOJ has yet to comment on the investigation or the documents found at the Delaware home. President Biden has not commented on the investigation or the documents.
