President Joe Biden has issued six full pardons to individuals who have completed their sentences and become active in their communities since their release. The list includes an 80-year-old Ohio woman who was convicted of murder for shooting her husband when she was 33.

The White House said Biden was a believer in second chances and that those he pardoned Friday had “demonstrated a commitment to improving their communities and the lives of those around them.” The six pardons include five people convicted of drug or alcohol offenses, and one woman convicted of murdering a husband she said abused her.

The list includes Beverly Ann Ibn-Tamas, an 80-year-old Ohio woman who was convicted of murder for shooting her husband when she was 33. The White House said she now works at the Ohio facility as a case manager. John Dix Nock III of Florida, now 72, pleaded guilty for renting and making use of a place for manufacturing marijuana plants 27 years ago. Charlie Byrnes Jackson, now 77, pleaded guilty to one count of possession and sale of distilled spirits over a single illegal whiskey transaction when he was 18. Edward Lincoln De Coito III of California, now 50, is a former U.S. Army service member who pleaded guilty to involvement in a marijuana trafficking conspiracy at 23. Gary Parks Davis, now 66 of Arizona, pleaded guilty to using a telephone to facilitate an unlawful cocaine transaction at 22.

The pardons come after Biden issued a wide-ranging pardon for all prior federal offenses of simple marijuana possession. The first pardons of Biden’s presidency came in April when he issued full pardons for three individuals along with commuting the sentences of 75 people serving time for nonviolent drug offenses as part of “Second Chance Month.”
