Colorado Springs Trial Begins to Determine if Hate Crime Charges Should be Brought Against Anderson Lee Aldrich

Anderson Lee Aldrich is on trial in Colorado Springs to determine if hate crime charges should be brought against him in response to a mass shooting at a gay nightclub last November. Detective Rebecca Joines testified that Aldrich had run a neo-Nazi website, used racial slurs, posted an image of a rifle scope trained on a gay pride parade, and used a homophobic slur. The prosecution is expected to call several witnesses to testify, and if Aldrich is found guilty, he could face up to life in prison.

Judge Rules Former New Mexico Republican State House Candidate Must Remain in Jail Pending Trial for Alleged Involvement in Conspiracy to Shoot at Homes of Legislators and County Commissioners

Solomon Peña, a former New Mexico Republican state house candidate, has been ordered to remain in jail as he awaits trial for his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to shoot at the homes of two state legislators and two Bernalillo County commissioners. Judge David Murphy of the Second Judicial District Court ruled that Peña posed a threat to the targets of the shootings and their family members, citing his history of felony convictions and the tactics police say were used in the shootings. Peña is currently facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated battery, and tampering with evidence, and his trial is set to begin in April.
