Family of Tyre Nichols Files Lawsuit Against City of Memphis and Five Police Officers for Alleged Brutality and Misconduct

A lawsuit has been filed against the City of Memphis and five police officers, accusing them of causing the death of Tyre Nichols. The suit alleges that the Memphis Police Department allowed the Scorpion unit to operate unchecked, using "extreme intimidation, humiliation, and violence" against its targets. It also accuses Police Director Cerelyn “CJ” Davis of creating the Scorpion unit and being aware of its aggressive tactics, but failing to take action. The family of Tyre Nichols is seeking damages for his death, as well as punitive damages against the officers and the City of Memphis.

Memphis Police Officer Preston Hemphill has admitted he did not witness the alleged reckless driving that was the justification for pulling over Tyre Nichols last month. Monterrious Harris has since filed a $5 million lawsuit against the officers and the City of Memphis, claiming he was attacked by the same officers three days prior. The incident has sparked outrage in the Memphis community, with many calling for justice for both Tyre Nichols and Monterrious Harris.

Eight Additional Memphis Police Officers to Face Disciplinary Action in Connection with Death of Tyre Nichols

The City of Memphis has announced that eight additional police officers are expected to face disciplinary action in connection with the death of Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old father and FedEx worker who was brutally beaten by Memphis Police officers during a traffic stop on January 7th. Five officers were fired soon after the incident, followed by a handful of emergency responders and a sixth police officer. The City of Memphis is now expecting to discipline seven additional officers as the investigation continues.
