Memphis, TN – On Tuesday, the City of Memphis announced that eight additional police officers are expected to face disciplinary action in connection with the death of Tyre Nichols last month.

Nichols, a 29-year-old father and FedEx worker, was pulled over by police for an apparent traffic stop on January 7th. During the stop, Nichols was brutally beaten by Memphis Police officers, and later brought to a hospital where he died three days later.

At a city council meeting on Tuesday, City Attorney Jennifer Sink and Police Chief C.J. Davis addressed the ongoing investigation into the incident. Sink told the council that, by her count, eight additional Memphis police officers are expected to receive a statement of charges, outlining their policy violations.

Five police officers were fired soon after the incident, followed by a handful of emergency responders and a sixth police officer. The City of Memphis is now expecting to discipline seven additional officers as the investigation continues.

The Memphis Police Department has not yet released any further information regarding the investigation. However, the City of Memphis has promised to continue to take appropriate action in the aftermath of Nichols’ death.
