The Air Force has suspended two commanders of the 102nd Intelligence Wing in Massachusetts in connection with the investigation of a suspected leaker, Jack Teixeira. The commander of the 102nd Intelligence Support Squadron and the detachment commander overseeing administrative support have both been temporarily suspended from their leadership positions and lost access to classified systems and information. Further investigation is underway to determine if any other members of the unit will be affected.

Jack Teixeira, a 21 year old Massachusetts Air National Guardsman, has been charged with unauthorized retention and transmission of national defense information and unauthorized removal of classified information and defense materials. He was arrested by heavily armed tactical agents and is being held in federal custody. The FBI identified Teixeira as a suspect in the leak of highly classified military documents, which were posted on social media and exposed sensitive information about the war in Ukraine.

An FBI affidavit revealed that Teixeira had searched for the word “leak” on his government computer on the same day the first media reports about the leak were published. Teixeira appeared in court Friday, where he was charged with possessing classified documents and national defense materials. It remains unclear what consequences he may face if convicted.
