A U.S. national has been detained by North Korea after crossing the border from South Korea, according to the United Nations. The individual crossed the Military Demarcation Line without authorization and is currently in North Korean custody. The United States has not yet commented on the incident and it is unclear why the individual crossed the border or what the consequences might be.

On Sunday afternoon, a mass shooting at a Texas outlet mall left eight people dead and six more injured, including two elementary school-aged sisters and a couple and their 3-year-old son. The victims represented a multicultural cross-section of the area's increasingly diverse suburbs, leaving the community in shock.
