Scalise withdrew his candidacy in the hopes of finding a candidate who can bring the party together, and Jordan's candidacy is sure to be closely watched in the coming weeks.

After Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) won the caucus Speakership vote, Jean-Pierre commented on the situation, saying that it was “shambolic chaos” and that there was a lot of work that needs to be done on behalf of the American people. Mace said she would be doing an “enormous disservice” to the voters she represents in South Carolina if she voted for Scalise.
