Lawsuit Filed Against Texas Governor and Attorney General for Suspension of Black High School Student Over Hairstyle

Darryl George, a 17-year-old Black high school student from Mont Belvieu, Texas, has been suspended since August 31st for his hairstyle, prompting his family to file a civil rights lawsuit against Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton. The lawsuit claims that the school district's dress code is discriminatory and violates George's civil rights, citing the CROWN Act which prohibits discrimination based on hairstyles associated with race. The lawsuit seeks an injunction to end George's suspension and prevent the school district from enforcing the dress code in a discriminatory manner, as well as damages for George's emotional distress.

Two Suspects Surrender to Police in Connection with Violent Brawl on Montgomery Riverfront

Two suspects have surrendered to police in connection with a brawl that occurred on the Montgomery, Alabama, riverfront on Saturday. The altercation escalated into a physical altercation, which was captured on video and showed a group of white men attacking a Black dockworker. Police Chief Darryl J. Albert said that the suspects were expected to face misdemeanor assault charges and the Montgomery Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.

Three Alabama Men Charged with Misdemeanor Assault After Brawl on Montgomery Riverfront

Three men have been charged with misdemeanor assault after a brawl broke out on the Montgomery Riverfront on Saturday evening. The altercation began when a riverboat was blocked from docking by a pontoon boat, and police are still investigating what led to the incident. Chief Darryl J. Albert stated that the elements of the crime do not support a hate crime.
