Keir Starmer has resigned as British prime minister and Labour leader after a revolt by his own MPs. His departure follows plunging approval ratings, policy U-turns, scandals and heavy Labour election losses.
Andy Burnham won the Makerfield by-election, returning to Parliament and clearing the way for a possible Labour leadership challenge against Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Burnham defeated Reform UK’s Robert Kenyon by more than 9,000 votes in a contest watched for its national implications.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol, the eldest child of Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn, has died at 47 after more than three years in hospital. A lawyer and former diplomat, she was known for work on criminal justice reform and women prisoners’ rights.
