Adam Frisch, a Colorado Democrat, has announced his intention to run against far-right Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert in 2024. A curious black bear has become the surprise star of motion-capture cameras set up in Boulder, Colorado, taking hundreds of "selfies" in an apparent impromptu photoshoot. The Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) team placed the cameras to observe local animals in the wild, but were surprised to find that of the 580 images captured by one camera, around 400 were of the same bear. The team is now using the bear’s selfies to help them better understand the local wildlife population and their habitats.
The U.S. Justice Department has filed its second antitrust lawsuit against Google in two years, accusing the tech giant of using its dominance in the online advertising market to stifle competition. The lawsuit, which is backed by 8 states, seeks to make Google divest parts of its business. It is the latest sign that the U.S. government is taking a hard stance against tech giants, and the first blockbuster antitrust case against a Big Tech company under the Biden administration.
Five individuals, including two police officers and two paramedics, have pleaded not guilty to charges related to the death of Elijah McClain in Aurora, Colorado in 2019. The charges stem from an incident in August 2019, when a 911 caller reported a man who seemed “sketchy” and the responding officers placed McClain in a chokehold and paramedics injected him with a powerful sedative. An amended autopsy report concluded that McClain would have most likely survived but for the administration of a dose of ketamine. The five individuals will be tried in three separate trials later this year.
A 13-year-old girl led Nebraska troopers on a high-speed chase that lasted nearly 20 minutes on Monday night. The chase began when a trooper spotted the vehicle driving at 35 mph and the driver allegedly accelerated to speeds of over 100 mph. The two children in the vehicle were eventually taken into protective custody, and the incident is still under investigation.
