G7 leaders meeting in France are focusing on a preliminary U.S.-Iran agreement and renewed efforts to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. Zelenskyy joined the summit as European leaders sought to keep pressure on Moscow and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump arrived at the G7 summit in France touting a signed Iran memorandum and saying the Strait of Hormuz is partially reopening. The summit is also expected to focus on Ukraine, AI, economic issues, immigration and supply chains.
Trump held separate calls with Putin and Zelenskyy as the Ukraine war loomed over the upcoming G7 summit. Russian officials said Trump pushed for an end to hostilities, while Zelenskyy said he and Trump agreed to continue talks at the summit.
British forces seized the tanker Smyrtos in the English Channel during a six-hour operation targeting Russia’s sanctions-evading shadow fleet. The UK says the vessel will be held and monitored off England’s south coast while investigations continue.
