Jacob Chansley, the spear-carrying rioter from the Jan. 6 Capitol assault, has filed paperwork to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona's 8th Congressional District as a Libertarian. He is running for the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Debbie Lesko, who is not seeking re-election. Chansley is awaiting trial for several federal offenses related to the Capitol riot and it is unclear if he will be able to secure the party's nomination or run for office while awaiting trial.

Judge Royce C. Lamberth has denied a motion to vacate the conviction of QAnon Shaman Jacob Chansley, who had pleaded guilty to obstruction of Congress during the 2021 Capitol attack. The judge rebuked Fox News host Tucker Carlson for his broadcast claiming to show exonerating footage, citing it as "replete with misstatements and misrepresentations" and "conveniently omitted" in past programming. Chansley's attorney said his client remains committed to fighting for his freedom and the freedom of all Americans.

A lawyer representing one of the Proud Boys members on trial for seditious conspiracy is asking a federal judge to throw out the case due to prosecutors' failure to include "plainly exculpatory" US Capitol security footage aired on Tucker Carlson's show. Billionaire Elon Musk showed sympathy for Jacob Chansley, one of the rioters, by tweeting to his 130 million followers to "Free Jacob Chansley". It is yet to be seen if the judge will agree with the lawyer's request.
