Air Quality in Eastern U.S. Reaches Unhealthy Levels Due to Smoke from Canadian Wildfires

Wildfires in eastern Canada are causing hazardous air quality conditions in the eastern United States, with cities such as New York City and Detroit having some of the worst air quality worldwide. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has released a radar-based analysis showing near-surface smoke over the U.S., and citizens are advised to limit their outdoor activities.

Detroit-area Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Brutal Slaying of WWJ Radio News Anchor Jim Matthews and Attack on His Family

Arthur Williamson of Pontiac was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the brutal slaying of WWJ radio news anchor Jim Matthews and attack on his family in December 2018. His no-contest plea was used as an admission of guilt at sentencing, and Judge James Biernat called him the “embodiment of evil”. The Matthews family released a statement thanking the police, prosecutors, and community for their support.

Michigan State Police Confirm Triple Homicide in Highland Park was Related to Gang Violence, Not Music

Michigan State Police have confirmed that the deaths of three Michigan rappers, Armani Kelly, Dante Wicker, and Montoya Givens, were the result of gang violence and not related to music. The bodies were found in an abandoned apartment building in Highland Park on February 2nd, and the police are asking for the public's help in the investigation. They have also stated that the incident was related to gang violence, in order to dispel false rumors.

Severe Weather Causes Disruption and Damage to Norman, Oklahoma and Detroit Areas

Last week, a severe ice storm and tornado swept through Norman, Oklahoma and the greater Detroit area, causing widespread damage, including downed trees and power lines, road closures and damage to homes. Over 165,000 homes and businesses in the Detroit area are still without power, and residents of both areas are working together to restore power and rebuild.

Tom Sizemore is in critical condition after suffering a brain aneurysm Saturday. He is currently in intensive care and his family is waiting for updates. Sizemore is known for his roles in hit crime and war movies, such as "Heat," "Natural Born Killers," "Pearl Harbor" and "Black Hawk Down," and has had a long battle with drug addiction.

Michigan State University: Three Students Killed, Five Injured in Shooting Spree by Anthony Dwayne McRae

On Monday night, a gunman opened fire at Michigan State University, killing three students and wounding five others before taking his own life. The shooter has been identified as 43-year-old Anthony Dwayne McRae, who had previously been arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. The motive for the shooting is still unknown and the university has released a statement expressing their condolences to the victims' families.
