Virginia “Ginni” Thomas Admits No Evidence of Election Fraud in Congressional Panel Deposition

Virginia "Ginni" Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, was questioned by a congressional panel about her involvement in spreading false claims of election fraud in the 2020 presidential election. In her deposition, she admitted she had no evidence of widespread fraud and was relying on "news reports" and "friends on the ground". When asked if she would have changed her position if she had known two years ago that Trump's campaign lawyers were aware there was no truth to the fraud claims, Thomas replied, "I don't know". She also confirmed her "best friend" was her husband, but objected to questions premised on the idea that she considers the election "stolen". Thomas stated she worried there was fraud and irregularities that distorted the election, but it wasn't uncovered in time, resulting in President Biden.

Explore the Latest Testimonies from the House Select Committee Investigating the January 6th Capitol Attack

The House select committee investigating the January 6th Capitol attack released transcripts of interviews with Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, former White House deputy chief of staff Tony Ornato, and Robert Sinners, who worked on the Trump campaign’s Election Day operations in Georgia in 2020. Thomas told the committee that her text message expressing disgust with then-Vice President Mike Pence was not related to his refusal to stop the congressional certification of Joe Biden’s win, but rather to her frustration with him not talking up election fraud claims. Sinners told investigators his “intent was never to be aligned with team crazy” and Ornato said he couldn’t recall details from January 6, citing “the fog of war” during the US Capitol attack. The committee also released emails showing an aide for former President Donald Trump reaching out to Jared Kushner about trademarking phrases related to the 2020 election.
