Pennsylvania Resident Sentenced to 80 Months in Prison for Attack on Capitol Police Officers on January 6, 2021

Julian Khater and George Tanios were sentenced to prison and time served, respectively, for their involvement in the attack on Capitol Police officers on January 6, 2021, which was part of a larger effort to disrupt the certification of the 2020 presidential election results. Khater was sentenced to 80 months in prison with credit for 22 months of time served, while Tanios was sentenced to time served over two misdemeanor charges. Julian Khater, who admitted to spraying U.S. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick with pepper spray during the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack, was sentenced to 80 months in prison in a Washington, D.C. courtroom packed with Sicknick's colleagues and fellow officers. George Tanios pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and entering and remaining in a restricted building. Judge Thomas Hogan said that he did not know what had motivated Khater to push his way through the crowd.

San Francisco Police have released bodycam footage of the assault on Paul Pelosi, husband of Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, and the arrest of his attacker David DePape. The video shows DePape slamming a hammer down on to Pelosi’s head, and he has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, and burglary. Congresswoman Pelosi has expressed her gratitude for the quick response of the police and the court's decision to release the video, and the Pelosi family has asked for privacy as they continue to process the events of the attack.

RNC Reelects Ronna McDaniel as Chairwoman, Granting Her Fourth Two-Year Term

Ronna McDaniel was reelected as chairwoman of the Republican National Committee on Friday, winning 111 votes in a three-way race. She had previously been appointed to the role by former President Donald Trump in 2017 and had served as chairwoman of the Michigan Republican Party. The RNC's decision to reelect McDaniel will ensure continuity in the party's operations through the next presidential election and the congressional elections in 2024.
